Re:Smart Parents - 2007/05/07 14:34 We were always "brainwashed" by how important books are. I remember that the best surprise I ever had is when I woke up to see a brand new book beside my pillow. Maybe it's like the kind of joy kids of today feel about getting a new Playstation game.

We were also told to treat books with respect, not to make them dirty nor mutilate them. In fact, many books were kept out of reach and we were allowed to read/look at them for a short time.

Maybe the fact that they are not always accessible makes them desirable.

Unfortunately, I can't say the same thing for my kids. They are surrounded by books but they treat them just like any common stuff in the house.
